We all aware of importance of water. Water is essential for conducting various metabolic process inside us. It’s a cleansing agent and helps to naturally detoxify us. There are always few questions as how much water one should drink in a day? What are the timings, temperature, etc? How we should drink water to get maximum benefits out of it etc…?
Here are few facts regarding water which will surely help you to know all about this magical natural drink –
Correct way to drink water: Never gulp water in a hurry weather you are busy or in a hurry. What happens is our saliva is alkaline in nature whereas stomach environment is acidic. Gulping water doesn’t let mix the alkaline saliva with water leaving stomach acidic which leads to acidity, bloating. More acidic environment invites various serious diseases in the body.
So, what to do sip it slowly and notice the change and feel the difference. Start drinking water from a glass or a sipper.
Do not drink water standing:You must have heard that we should not drink water while standing and never while running or walking. It is because while standing or moving kidneys are unable to filter the water properly. Secondly our muscles and nervous system are not relaxed and it makes difficult for your nerves to digest the fluid which leads to accumulation of fluids in joints resulting in arthritis. So for better knee health sit at a place and then slowly sip on water.
Best time to drink water: The best time that no one should miss is just after waking up. In Ayurveda this practice is known as “ushapaan’’ during night various detoxification processes take place and ushapaan induce their excretion thus completing the process. Morning saliva is fantastic for digestion and should not be wasted while brushing. So just as you wake up drink water first then after you start your routine.
How much water to drink: Well there is no fix rule for this whenever you feel thirsty, drink water. Drink as much as you can, you should not feel heavy after drinking it. Our body type, type of food we eat all requires different amount of water as if you just finished on some juicy fruits you will hardly feel thirsty but if you have eaten some more sweet, spicy or salty food you will feel more thirst. So, it depends but in general 2.0 – 3.0 lit of daily intake of water is good.
Except for the first morning urine which is darker anyways However, you notice the color of your urine every time if it is clear means you are drinking appropriate amount of water.
I personally know many people who forcefully drink water as it is good for weight loss. As excess of everything is not good so is true with water. Excess water leads to dilution of electrolytes like sodium.
When to avoid: Just before or specially just after finishing a meal you should not drink water. When we eat food, heat is generated which is good for digestion but if we drink water it slows down digestion, deceases acid concentration needed for digestion which leads to rotting of food. This leads to bloating, acidity, heaviness etc. But if you have a habit of drinking water after meal then fill your mouth with water and after a while spit it out this will surely help you to get rid of this habit as well clean your mouth.
Best temperature: Appropriate temperature of drinking water is room temperature. Best is lukewarm, but according to season. In summers you can use earthen pot to get cool water. Earthen pots are good to maintain pH of water. On the other side chilled water solidifies the fat in food, shrink blood vessels and aggravate joint pain.
